INDIANAPOLIS (Sept. 20, 2021) – The Basketball League (TBL) will add a new team in Shawnee, Okla., TBL CEO Evelyn Magley announced today.

The ownership group purchasing the team is the Citizen Potawatomi Nation (CPN).
“This is a very big announcement for TBL, as this marks our first partnership with a tribe,” Magley said. “CPN is known for its community engagement and progressive thinking, and we look forward to working closely with their amazing staff.”

Shawnee is 45 minutes southeast of Oklahoma City and is centrally located to the rest of the markets in TBL’s Central Conference.

“We are thrilled to be bringing professional basketball to our community,” said David Qualls, FireLake Arena manager. “After witnessing the amazing crowd at the Enid Outlaws TBL championship game, we fully understand the league’s vision for impacting community, and knowing the love of basketball in central Oklahoma, the decision to invest was easy.”

The team is planning a media conference Sept. 29 at FireLake Arena, where it will announce:

• Team name
• Head coach
• New court design
• Upcoming tryout events
• Upcoming youth clinics and camps
• Season ticket and sponsorship opportunities

TBL’s fifth season will begin in March. Teams play a 24-game schedule, with a national champion crowned in late June.
